CHAOS MAGIC COMIC AUSTIN OSMAN SPARE PENCILS

The above Artwork are enlarged panels from the penciled pages for the AOS Chaos Magic Comic strip. The pages are A4 in size. Of an associated aside, there are very few examples of Austin Osman’s Spare’s work influencing the arena of music before 1970, but the band, Bulldog Breed was one such example. Bulldog Breed were an obscure late-’60s British psychedelic band who released an album entitled Made In England in 1969 by Decca, the album is now a rarity.

Bulldog Breed’s guitarist, Rod Harrison described how he came to include a track about the Austin Osman Spare: “Well you certainly hit on a rare one there! As a matter of interest “Austin Osman Spare” was an acquaintance of my Grandmother. She had been been friendly with Austin and had been given many of his works! Before Gran came to London she had been a tutor at Bristol University (Piano and Art) My Mother also became interested in his Art as she herself was an artist. I recall that she worked just up the hill from Brixton at a place called Skolniks — they were involved in commercial artwork somewhere around “Streatham high” as it was called then! Not too far from where Austin used to live!”

“My Mother and I went over to Ilford to see an Auntie of mine and as a child I was introduced to a world of Canvasses and painting — mainly Austin’s. This was shortly before my Mother had a very bad breakdown. I suppose I would have been about seven years old at the time. Everyone in my family was a bit artistic and even now I do the odd portrait or watercolour. I inherited a lot of prints and sketches of Austin’s work, but with the passage of time they were lost, I think I left them in a bedsit in Ilford just round from the Bus station, 1969!”

“This was at a time when Bulldog were merging with T2! Keith Cross had turned up on the scene, most of my equipment had been stolen and I suffered a setback financially (as musicians do). I did a runner ‘cos I couldn’t pay the rent! “Austin lived in or around the Brixton area and was a good wartime painter but in later years I believe he suffered very badly with illness losing his limbs (gangrene) and dying somewhere about 1956. He had a belief that art should be within the reach of the common man. As to his involvement of the occult I really don’t know too much about that- that was just how the lyric panned out.”

“I suppose you could say that he was a little influenced by William Blake and I am not too sure of his relationship with Crowley! “I was sharing a flat with a friend of mine just off Wanstead High Street and Bernie Jinks, Robin Hunt (whose family lived round the corner — Nightingale lane) and numerous young ladies would come round for a bit of music practice! These two guys were always the ones with women in tow!”

“I think that Robin, Bernie and I were sitting around on one such afternoon and since the pressure was on to write some material for the LP, for some reason Austin’s name cropped up and we all worked it out from there! It was probably the introduction of the Artwork that inspired Robin to work on the Lyric! I had already got some idea of a Guitar part and with Bernie’s’ input the song came together in a very short time!”

Long before Christianity made its empire-building way into central and Eastern Europe, many of the ancient Pagan peoples practiced what can be construed as shamanism, others call witchcraft or sorcery.

Shamanic practices were practiced in central and Eastern European lands, which are now called Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Transylvania, etc.

For example, archaeologists have discovered traces of mysterious rituals performed by (Witcher) Shamans about 9,000 years ago in Poland.

The archaeological site is located near today’s lake Swidwie (West Pomeranian) in North-Western Poland, which has been studied since 2012.

One of the most interesting discoveries is an area of a circle, where scientists discovered mysterious structures.

The main feature of the site turned out to be a trapezoidal building having poles, surrounded by an arch of stones placed at equal distances from each other, which has lain buried down the ages, while numerous wars have been fought above its bones.

There are also ritualistic sharpened yew sticks driven into the surface in the shape of a horizontal figure similar to the Big Dipper, a fragment of the constellation of Ursa Major.

However, many researchers have noted that the shamanic worldview of the pre-Christian European peoples have survived in their colourful myths.

It is upon these ancient myths The Witcher (Polish: Wiedzmin), fantasy series of novels and short stories have derived much of their inspiration, that were written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

The Witcher books led to the development of a 2007 action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red, called The Witcher.

The Witcher game was duly followed by The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015.

As in the books, upon which the video games are based, the story takes place in an alternate medieval fantasy world.

The story follows Geralt of Rivia, one of a few traveling monster hunters who have shamanic powers, known as Witchers.

The Witchers are masters of the martial arts, who can be seen as warrior Shamans; their female counterparts are Sorceresses.

The Witchers also have control over the elements, who use five elemental hand-signs to do so, which are similar to Mudras used in the meditation practice of Yoga.

In Yoga practice a Mudra means ‘sign,’ seal, gesture, or mark. Yoga Mudras are symbolic meditation gestures often practiced with the hands and fingers.

They facilitate the flow of energy within the dream (subtle) body, when utilised when (sexagram/sixth-sense) lucid dreaming.

The ‘meditation tool of a Witcher video game’ has a system of moral choices, which are part of its adult story-line.

It has been noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality.

There are also numerous references to the works of the author H.P. Lovecraft in the highly successful Witcher video games.

For example, one of the enemies Geralt fights against in the first game is Dagon, as described by Lovecraft. In the Wild Hunt, Geralt can also get hold of the Necronomicon.

The above Artwork is an example of an enlarged panel from the Chaos Magic comic, which depicts a Night-Mare dream visitation of a Succubus.

The comic page is in part inspired by the Rarebit Fiend and Little Nemo In Slumberland comics by the American cartoonist Winsor McCay.

The comic page was initially a rough sketch of an idea, I was going to trace onto Bristol board, using a handy tool of a light-box, and then ink in.

However, I finally decided that the sketch its self, would be the finished Art, since tracing sketches often lose much of their dynamism in the process.

I also decided not to digitally erase the guide lines, should there be any of an experiment.

However, I have also done other versions, which have been cleaned up, along with making the pen-work darker, etc. One of which will be the final Artwork.

The comic strip is a single page non-narrative story, which will be followed by other pages of similarity.

The entire comic page was done in pen on A4 size paper. Another example of an enlarged comic strip panel can be found below.

If you are interested in the Al Azif Necronomicon, part 3, which is being serialised as a fully illustrated underground comic book, it can be found on my Patreon page, Please Click Here.

Part three of the Al Azif Necronomicon covers an alternate version of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story, ‘Pickman’s Model.’

The story revolves around a Bostonian Artist named Richard Upton Pickman, which was written in September 1926.

‘Pickman’s Model’ was first published in the October 1927 issue of Weird Tales.

The story was later adapted for television in a 1971 episode of the Night Gallery anthology series.

The first part of the Al Azif Necronomicon is based upon H.P. Lovecraft’s own description and history about Abdul Alhazred’s book, which I have taken into the Twilight Zone.

As for Lovecraft’s character, Randolph Carter, I have based him upon the ‘Altered States’ of consciousness researchers, Dr John C. Lilly and Terrence McKenna.

Lovecraft’s surrealist creation of the Al Azif Necronomicon transmuted the dualism of a religious fixation upon a war in Heaven and Hell into the realms of science fiction.

Ancient alien entities are in perpetual conflict with one another, whose shadowy existence has engendered bored humans to engage themselves in exotic cargo-cult religions.

Interestingly, you find the same transmutation of religious symbolism into the domains of science fiction when looking into the UFO mystique, where Angels and Demons have been transformed into Aliens, whether they be hovering around amidst the cosmos, or hiding away in underground bases.

Lovecraft described Al Ahazred’s book to be a very dangerous tome, because it revealed the archetypal theme of a cosmic war fought by deities as being, in actuality, a conflict between monstrously ancient alien races, who far predate humanity and even predating the formation of the solar system.

However, Lovecraft’s subject matter would not be too Earth shattering of a revelation to a cultist whom worships deities, who is then told that his/her deities are actually aliens, whose technology is indivisible from magic. The cultist would just shrug his/her shoulders and make the symbolic transition quite easily.

In other words, Lovecraft’s Al Azif Necronomicon wouldn’t be considered as being dangerous at all, nor would it be banned, since it validates the established religious orientation from a scientific perspective.

There are numerous historical examples of grimoires, which are in archetypal accord with the religious paradigm, even when they veer into what can be considered as being the arena of proto-science fiction, such as, for example, Dr John Dee’s Enochian system.

I am more concerned about what has actually been banned, and totally castigated out of the symbolic equation.

Also, I am not saying another order of alien intelligence does not exist, far from it, since what has been cut out of the equation is a particular expression of the ‘symbolic interface,’ which facilitates communication with other forms of intelligence via the informational realms of electron dreams.

Hence, a certain form of the ‘symbolic interface’ is considered as being dangerous. Wherefore, it has been banned!

ADULT COMIC AND OCCULT HORROR SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY ART

I have had an idea of creating an EC comic for some time, which has only become a reality when I discovered Createspace and Patreon.  Although Createspace has since been assimilated by Borg Amazon whose publishing emphasis is Kindle.

faustus crow podcast

The comic will be of similarity to the adult science fiction fantasy comic magazine Metal Hurlant/Heavy Metal, but not its present Politically-Correct manifestation. Metal Hurlant/Heavy Metal used to be over-the-top rebellious, now its Newspeak Woke. I will be putting the Comic Strip Artwork on my PATREON Page.

The comic, will involve my alter-ego, Faustus Crow, who is the principle character; then again he is actually is myself, since the character and who I am, are indivisible of an Artistic persona, being one and the same. So, I should more accurately say, the comic is an autobiography of sorts. As Crow I do not see a division between the practice of Art and Sorcery, which led me into the inner space realms of the lucid dream.

The main underground comic will be an anthology of stories, which are based in varying dream worlds, I myself have experienced over the years. Though separate, the stories are inter-related by Crow journeying between them who is sometimes featured directly or indirectly, which will be made up of one pagers, as well as short stories, numbering two or four, to eight pages each.

The Artwork will be drawn in black and white using traditional media. Some of the stories will be about the Goetia Girls, as depicted in my Art book grimoires as well as being introduced by the (Succubae) Succubi, I as Crow have conjured into my lucid dreams, as salacious Art Muses.

Some of the Succubi are knitted-together Frankenhooker Tulpa Mind-Dolls who have been animated into their spectral life by Crow’s Sorcery Art, which I practice. The principle Succubus Art Muse is Mephistophina who is Crow’s illustrated ‘Anima,’ manifestation, whose knitted-together Frankenhooker canvas skin tells of many a tattooed story world, and each dream world is governed over by her (Succubi) Succubae sisters.

goetia_girls_liliths_harem_mephistophina_succubus_of_faustus_crow

Crow’s Faustian persona is a fusion of differing role-models such as Hermann Hesse’s Steppenwolf character, Harry Haller, Austin Osman Spare and Salvador Dali fused with Doctor Who, but then they have been somewhat formative influences among numerous others, such as Carlos Castaneda.

My story is somewhat like an adult version of Little Nemo In Slumberland, which of dream interactions with Night-Mare Art Muses, led me into alternate dream worlds. The Comic strip is tied in with my book, Lilith’s Harem. The other Steppenwolf dream worlds Crow journeys into will investigate varying Magic Theatre themes, covering Occult, Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy as well as other associated genres.

The style of the Artwork will be of a Surrealist nature, which may not always use text, to otherwise be more visual of narrative. Most if not all of the stories will be erotic of Tantric orientation. Some of the comic strips will also be experimental of style. Other Comic book ideas such as Munster X Files Marilyn, etc, will involve alternative and mixed media such as photo-montage and CGI, etc.
